Some debut releases feel polished but distant. Others feel rough in the best possible way, like they were made because they had to be made. That’s the impression I get from “The Crack in My Heart,” the first produced single from Cosmic Anxiety, a new project coming out of Berlin’s underground scene.

The track revolves around a feeling that a lot of people recognize but don’t always talk about. It deals with the quiet pressure of modern life, the constant politeness, the social masks, and the strange sense of distance that can exist even when you’re surrounded by people. Instead of turning that idea into something dramatic, the song presents it in a more restrained way, almost like an observation rather than a complaint.
What makes the release interesting to me is how intentionally handmade it feels. The band consists of Eli and Gasher, who previously played together in another project before starting Cosmic Anxiety as something more synth-driven and minimal. The music isn’t built around big studio tricks. Gasher created the instrumental using hardware gear, and the lyrics came quickly once the sound was there. That kind of process gives the song a natural flow that you can hear in the final version.
I also like the fact that the band openly avoids relying on AI tools. Everything here was done manually, from the production to the artwork, which was created in 3D software. That choice fits the message of the song. When the lyrics talk about losing humanity, it makes sense that the music itself tries to stay as human as possible.
Sonically, the track sits somewhere between alternative pop, synth music, and darker electronic textures. You can hear influences from older electronic styles, but it doesn’t feel like nostalgia. It feels more like people using those sounds to talk about what life feels like right now.
Another detail that stands out is how the band describes the project itself. Cosmic Anxiety started almost like therapy, a way to deal with personal and social tension through music. That idea comes through clearly in the song. It doesn’t sound like something written for playlists or trends. It sounds like something written because the feeling needed somewhere to go.
For a first release, “The Crack in My Heart” leaves a strong impression. Not because it’s loud or flashy, but because it feels honest. The message is simple: people are drifting apart, and maybe music is one of the few ways to remind ourselves that we don’t have to.
If this is where Cosmic Anxiety starts, I’m curious to hear where they go next.
