Grace & Moji, the endearing husband-and-wife indie pop duo, are back with an exhilarating new single, “Sad Times.” Known for their distinctive talent in intertwining genuine emotions with clever lyricism, this Los Angeles-based duo once again proves that music can be both deeply moving and light-hearted.
“Sad Times” is an upbeat, high-energy track that immerses listeners in Grace & Moji’s voyage of inner exploration, drawing inspiration from their transformative encounters with self-healing and plant medicine, notably Ayahuasca. While tackling profound themes, Grace & Moji approach the subject matter with a fun and whimsical perspective, reminding their audience that self-discovery doesn’t always have to be a somber affair. It can be a vivacious, spirited dance between self-awareness and delight. “Sad Times might just be the sole pop song about ayahuasca in existence,” remarks Moji, underscoring the track’s unique position in the realm of pop music.
The song’s lyrics are a blend of self-reflection and a rallying cry for positive change, complete with a catchy chorus that’s sure to strike a chord with their fans. Lines like “I see visions / In the midnight hour / My spirit spoke, and it blew my mind / Said my life’s a mess but I can turn it around” underscore the song’s central theme of empowerment and redemption.
Grace shares, “Over the past few years, I’ve been through a tough time internally, navigating through a dark night of the soul, where I’ve woven in and out of deeply sad periods. At the same time, I’ve been evolving rapidly, both internally and externally. The process of growing and shedding old parts of ourselves can be painful, facing the shadow sides of yourself, but in that journey, you ultimately end up in a better place.”
“Sad Times” follows the footsteps of their earlier hits, such as “Our Love” and “Monster,” demonstrating Grace & Moji’s exceptional skill in addressing real-life experiences in a captivating and relatable manner. “Sad Times” offers a fresh viewpoint on personal growth, vividly illustrating the highs and lows but ultimately leaning into hope and the human capacity for resilience.
“Sad Times” is set to be available on all major streaming platforms on October 19th. To discover more about Grace & Moji, their musical journey, and upcoming performances, please visit [www.graceandmoji.com].
