Prepare for a harmonious voyage as we delve into the latest creation of Matthew Ruddy, an accomplished saxophonist and seasoned musician. His newest single, “Learn To Fly (Radio Edit),” is a captivating blend of pop music inspired by the likes of musical legends such as Queen, Huey Lewis, Elton John, and One Republic.
In “Learn To Fly,” Matthew Ruddy masterfully weaves together the essence of these iconic artists and their contributions to the pop genre. The result is a unique and distinctive musical style that is entirely his own. This musical endeavor exemplifies his dedication to pushing the boundaries of creativity while paying homage to the foundational influences of his musical predecessors.
Matthew Ruddy’s musical journey began during his primary school years when a deep passion for playing instruments first took root. He was an integral part of a ceilidh school, where he skillfully played the tin whistle and banjo. His commitment led to weekly practice sessions and participation in festivals in Coatbridge, notably on St. Patrick’s Day. This period of musical exploration unfolded between 2009 and 2011, laying the foundation for his subsequent musical odyssey.
Upon entering secondary school, Matthew embarked on a new chapter in his musical evolution, embracing the saxophone and piano. However, it was not until 2013 that he began to shine with his saxophone skills, gradually developing a profound passion for performing. He became an active member of the North Lanarkshire Schools Wind Ensemble, diligently attending their weekly rehearsals. This platform provided opportunities to showcase his musical talents in two annual concerts—one at the Royal Concert Hall in Glasgow and the other at the Motherwell Civic Centre.
In 2014, Matthew ventured into the world of live performances, gracing the stage at his local Showcase Cinema. For a year, he shared his musical gifts twice a week, from May 2014 to May 2015. While these gigs were unpaid, they offered the perk of free weekly film viewings with friends. With an expanding repertoire and growing stage experience, he transitioned to his first paid piano performances, captivating audiences at Braehead shopping centre and Mar Hall Golf and Spa Resort. Around 2017, his saxophone prowess took center stage.
Throughout his educational journey, Matthew continued to hone his craft. From 2017 to 2019, he pursued music studies at Glasgow Clyde College, culminating in an HND in music. During this period, he showcased his saxophone skills at various restaurants and bars across Glasgow, including esteemed venues like the Ivy and Princes Square.
In 2020, Matthew embarked on a new phase of his musical voyage, enrolling at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. However, this endeavor coincided with the onset of the global COVID-19 pandemic, significantly affecting his income streams. Despite facing 18 challenging months, he made a triumphant return to the music scene, riding the wave of the Ibiza sax trend. This often involved collaborating with DJs at clubs, performing at weddings, and engaging in functions, serving as his primary source of income as he pursued his studies. After four years of dedicated education, Matthew Ruddy proudly graduated with a Bachelor of Music Performance with Honours from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
With his formal education now complete, Matthew has ventured into music composition and singing. His upcoming album is a testament to the culmination of all he has learned over the years, seamlessly weaving together his diverse experiences and musical influences into a genre-defining collection. This album promises to showcase his exceptional talent and unwavering commitment to crafting music that transcends boundaries and defines genres.
