The Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City hosted the induction ceremony for the Songwriters Hall of Fame on Thursday night. Gloria Estefan, Jeff Lynne, Teddy Riley, Glen Ballard, Liz Rose, as well as Snoop Dogg and Sade Adu, who postponed their induction until the following year, were all members of this year’s class. The Hal David Starlight Award is given annually by the Hall to “gifted young songwriters who are making a significant impact in the music industry,” and Lil Nas X received it the year before. Post Malone was the recipient this time.
Posty congratulated his fiance and their child, took off his suit jacket, and performed a solo acoustic rendition of “Feeling Whitney” off his 2016 debut album Stoney after being introduced by close associate Louis Bell. It sounded like something by his friend Robin Pecknold of Fleet Foxes thanks to the arrangement. He apologized to the audience, who laughed, “I’m sorry that I played a song that nobody knows.” Watch the performance in the video below.
