On April 24, 2024, composer Richard Green released “A Story”, a poignant and carefully crafted piece that sits at the heart of his neoclassical trilogy project. The track, featured on the second EP titled A Journey, is more than just music — it’s an exploration of life itself, portraying the ups and downs, moments of love, and the personal growth that shapes us.
From its title alone, “A Story” makes its intent clear. Richard Green sees life as a narrative, and through this track he transforms that vision into sound. The composition moves between different musical sections, weaving classical textures with surprising touches of blues and jazz. This dynamic shift not only adds originality but mirrors the unpredictability of human experience — moments of calm, tension, sorrow, and joy.
The track opens the second chapter of Green’s trilogy, acting as a bridge between beginnings and endings. It represents the “middle” of life’s journey, reflecting how each of us carries our own story filled with triumphs and struggles.
While Richard Green is the creative force behind the project, the single comes alive thanks to remarkable collaborators. Irene Veneziano, one of Italy’s most acclaimed classical pianists, brings sensitivity and depth to the piano sections, while the Archimia String Quartet enriches the piece with sweeping emotion and technical brilliance.
The recording took place at Studio Elfo in Piacenza, Italy, a space that has become central to Green’s work. Though the music was composed in London, the Italian studio gave the project its professional polish, capturing the richness of both the arrangements and the performers.
Green notes that this piece holds a special place in his discography because of its originality. By combining neoclassical roots with the freedom of blues and jazz phrasing, he has created something that feels familiar yet strikingly fresh.
What makes “A Story” stand out is its conceptual depth. It isn’t just a standalone track, but part of a trilogy that Green describes as a musical journey. Each EP represents a chapter, and together they form a complete arc. “A Story” opens the second EP, A Journey, which is followed by The Circle Closes, with the final chapter First Chapter set to complete the trilogy soon.
Green emphasizes the visual side of the project as well. Each piece is paired with its own image, included in the mini book that accompanies the physical release of A Journey. This artistic choice reinforces the idea of music as storytelling — each track a scene, each image a window into the narrative.
Although Richard Green has not yet performed “A Story” live, he plans to bring the trilogy to the stage once the final EP is released. With Veneziano and Archimia involved in the recordings, the same ensemble is expected to carry the project into the concert hall, offering audiences a chance to experience the full emotional weight of the trilogy in a live setting.
“A Story” is a deeply moving composition that captures Richard Green at a pivotal moment in his career. By blending classical traditions with modern influences, he creates a work that is both technically accomplished and emotionally resonant.
More than a single track, it’s a reflection of what music can be when approached with honesty and vision: a story told without words, yet universally understood.
