Some bands challenge musical conventions. Others challenge cultural ones. TOTAL REVERENDS set their sights on both.
Built around the collision of ritual, rebellion, and artistic experimentation, the Italian collective occupies a fascinating space where sacred imagery meets alternative rock energy. Their latest single, “Where Is God?”, captures that vision perfectly, asking timeless questions through a sound that feels both ancient and strikingly contemporary.

At its core, the project thrives on contradiction. Choirs meet distortion. Spiritual symbolism collides with punk attitude. Reverence and skepticism coexist in the same breath. Rather than mocking faith or embracing it uncritically, TOTAL REVERENDS seem more interested in exploring the spaces between certainty and doubt, creating music that invites reflection rather than delivering conclusions.
The band’s origins are as unconventional as their sound. The project began when guitarist and vocalist Francesco Forni was booked to perform on December 8th, traditionally associated with religious celebrations in Italy. What started as a playful “Madonna concert” featuring musicians dressed as priests and nuns performing radically transformed versions of familiar songs gradually evolved into something much larger. Over time, that concept expanded into TOTAL REVERENDS, a project built on collective creativity, experimentation, and a willingness to challenge expectations.
Musically, “Where Is God?” benefits from the experience of two highly respected musicians. Forni’s diverse background as a songwriter, guitarist, and performer combines with drummer Piero Monterisi’s extensive career across Italian rock, pop, and progressive music. Together, they create a sound that feels simultaneously raw and sophisticated.
The track embraces a choral grandeur that gives it an almost ceremonial atmosphere while maintaining the energy and urgency of alternative rock. Layers of voices, driving rhythms, and dynamic arrangements create a sense of collective expression, as though the song exists somewhere between a congregation and a protest.
That communal spirit is central to TOTAL REVERENDS as a whole. The project features an impressive network of collaborators, with guest musicians, singers, and choir members contributing to a rich and expansive sonic landscape. Rather than functioning as a traditional band, TOTAL REVERENDS often feels like a creative movement, bringing together diverse voices under a shared artistic vision.
What makes “Where Is God?” particularly compelling is its willingness to ask difficult questions without reducing them to simple slogans. The title itself carries enormous weight, touching on themes of faith, absence, doubt, and meaning. Yet the song never feels heavy-handed. Instead, it allows listeners to engage with those ideas through emotion, atmosphere, and sound.
In an era where many artists feel pressured to fit neatly within specific genres or identities, TOTAL REVERENDS embraces complexity. Their music is theatrical without becoming self-indulgent, philosophical without becoming inaccessible, and rebellious without losing its humanity.
“Where Is God?” serves as a powerful introduction to a project unlike almost anything else currently operating in the alternative music landscape. Part ritual, part rock show, part existential conversation, TOTAL REVERENDS prove that some of the most interesting artistic discoveries happen when familiar boundaries are left behind.
Based in Italy, TOTAL REVERENDS continue to blur the lines between alternative rock, ritual performance, choir-driven arrangements, and experimental storytelling, creating music that is as thought-provoking as it is powerful.
