Anton Commissaris’ “Find Me a Girl”

Anton Commissaris’ “Find Me a Girl” brings a playful charm back to the timeless art of the jazz swing song. Rather than treating romance with unnecessary seriousness, Commissaris approaches the subject with wit, warmth and a refreshing sense of optimism. The song follows a simple but familiar desire: finding someone special, but what makes it enjoyable is the confidence and personality with which that story is told.

Musically, “Find Me a Girl” sits comfortably within the world of classic jazz and swing while still feeling like the work of a contemporary independent songwriter. There is an unmistakable American Songbook sensibility to the track, with its buoyant character and romantic storytelling, but Commissaris does not simply imitate the past. He brings his own voice and perspective to the tradition, making the song feel approachable rather than overly nostalgic.

What I particularly enjoy about the song is the way its story develops. At the beginning, the narrator knows exactly what he wants and describes the qualities of the woman he hopes to meet. It could easily have remained a straightforward song about longing, but Commissaris gives it a satisfying turn. By the bridge, the search is over. He has found her, and the feeling is mutual. That shift from wanting love to actually finding a connection gives the song its warmth and makes the ending feel genuinely rewarding.

That storytelling approach says a lot about Commissaris as an artist. His work moves across jazz, soul, R&B, Latin and Americana, but melody and storytelling remain central to what he does. His influences, from Cole Porter and Antônio Carlos Jobim to Stevie Wonder, Bill Withers, Frank Sinatra and Ray Charles, help explain the balance between sophisticated songwriting and emotional accessibility that runs through his music.

Having released more than 45 original songs since beginning his independent music journey, Commissaris has clearly developed a catalogue built around his love of melody and the traditions of American songwriting. “Find Me a Girl” feels like a particularly lighthearted expression of that identity. It is romantic without being overly sentimental, humorous without losing its sincerity, and rooted in an older musical tradition while remaining distinctly his own.

For me, the appeal of “Find Me a Girl” is ultimately its simplicity. It takes one of the oldest subjects in popular music, the search for love, and chooses to tell it with a smile. Sometimes you know exactly what you are looking for, and sometimes, as Commissaris reminds us, you are fortunate enough to find it.
