At the centre of the album is Chayton, an elderly Cheyenne man nearing the end of his life. Knowing that the world inhabited by younger generations is very different from the one he knew, Chayton makes one final attempt to pass on the values, traditions, and cultural knowledge that shaped his life. His listener is Tokala, a young man from his tribe who is now living within a modern world far removed from the past.
What makes the story interesting is that Chayton is not trying to pull Tokala backwards. He does not demand that the younger man abandon modern life or return to an imagined past. Instead, he encourages him to carry forward the parts of his heritage that still have meaning. That distinction gives Adorati Spiriti a more thoughtful perspective on tradition. The album is less about choosing between the old and the new and more about asking whether the two can exist together.
The Native American setting gives the story a specific cultural and historical framework, particularly through its connection to the Great Lakes region, but the questions at its heart are much wider. Every generation eventually has to decide what should be preserved, what should change, and what happens when important parts of a shared identity begin to disappear.
The album follows the different stages of Chayton’s attempt to communicate these ideas, touching on values, religion, culture, society, and politics. His approach is described as open and sensitive rather than dogmatic, which makes the relationship between the elder and the younger man central to the album’s emotional direction.

There is also an unusual story behind its creation. Massimo Donelli and Paolo Rossi first played together in bands when they were younger before moving into professional careers in journalism and politics. Years later, they returned to their shared passion for music. Donelli composes the music, while Rossi writes the lyrics and co-produces the musical arrangements. Artificial intelligence is also used in the development and reworking of the compositions.
That meeting of past experience and modern technology mirrors the album’s central idea in an unexpected way. Adorati Spiriti is concerned with preserving something valuable without refusing change, and its own creation brings together old musical relationships, contemporary technology, and a story about generations trying to understand one another.
