Jeán et Joie: Emanating Mournful Folk with a Hopeful Glow

Guided by the artistic vision of Grey Jeán, singer-songwriter, Jeán et Joie embarks on an enchanting musical expedition, weaving mournful folk melodies with a hopeful radiance. Their music exudes simplicity through its gentle instrumentals and poetic, stream-of-consciousness narratives, delving into celestial realities, the marvels of the natural world, and a profound emotional depth.

From an early age, Grey was immersed in a musical milieu, harmonizing with their three sisters and singing polyphonic hymns rooted in their Catholic upbringing. Growing up in Mountain Home, Arkansas, Grey sought refuge in crafting personal compositions and expressing their emotions through song. Their passion carried them from choirs to open mic nights, and even through virtual concerts during the Covid-19 pandemic.

In 2021, Grey’s path crossed with the San Diego punk blues band, Teeming Dreams, where they contributed with piano pieces and songwriting. The following year marked the birth of Jeán et Joie, introducing Grey’s intimate musical repertoire. Joined by their fiancé Gabrielle Néla, along with the talented drummer-guitar duo Ikaika and Dash from the LA band, Flamango Bay, the band discovered an unparalleled musical synergy.

Now based in North Carolina, Jeán et Joie draws inspiration from their musical roots, reconnecting with the forests and woods that nurtured Grey’s artistic identity.

Anticipation builds for the forthcoming EP, “Bramble,” scheduled for release in 2023, preceded by the singles “Glory Be” and “Fried Rice.” Each track promises to embody the captivating essence of Jeán et Joie, reflecting celestial inspirations, a profound bond with nature, and a rich emotional journey.

As their musical odyssey unfolds, Jeán et Joie extends an invitation to listeners to immerse themselves in their heartrending melodies and poignant narratives. The band’s distinctive fusion of folk and poetic lyricism leaves an enduring imprint on the music world. Brace yourself for the unveiling of “Bramble” in 2023, as Jeán et Joie continues to captivate audiences with their lyrical prowess and evocative soundscapes.
