Devil In The Microwave’s journey commenced in the NR3 endz of Norwich, where they grew up together, shaping their unique musical chemistry. Their music draws from an eclectic palette of influences, ranging from Gentle Giant and The Smiths to Death Grips and Helmet. One memorable recording session took an unexpected turn. They booked Pirate Studios for a tranquil Sunday recording session, only to discover a massive DnB rave in full swing. The venue was packed with revelers, empty cans littering the floor, and even some unexpected surprises. The thunderous bass from the rave infiltrated their recording, necessitating extensive editing to exorcise its sonic remnants. What began as a quiet session turned into a sonic adventure of unexpected proportions.
The single, “Handsome Boy,” was meticulously crafted through a DIY approach. Mixing duties oscillated between Earth Studios Norwich and a humble bedroom. Every aspect of production was masterminded by the band members, with assistance from a friend at Ninth Paradise, who lent his expertise in recording the drums.
Devil In The Microwave’s mission is to conjure captivating and unique music that speaks to both their own souls and the hearts of their listeners. They draw inspiration from an astonishingly diverse array of genres, including alternative rock, grunge, prog rock, medieval music, indie, grime, drill, renaissance, and even 90s house music.
Their songs often unravel with layers of meaning, weaving stories inspired by real-life events, all tinged with a hint of twisted narrative. It’s an invitation for listeners to decode and craft their own individual experiences. Their recording process was fraught with challenges when all of their files succumbed to corruption, prompting a herculean effort to salvage and remix various components. “There’s nowhere you can be that isn’t where you’re meant to be” – A memorable phrase forever etched on Daniel Rumford’s arm, the friend from Ninth Paradise who recorded the drums for the band.
Devil In The Microwave’s latest single, “Handsome Boy,” promises an electrifying journey into the unknown. With an unshakable commitment to defying conventions and an insatiable appetite for crafting unforgettable live moments, this band invites you to accompany them on a sonic adventure unlike any other.
