In a world rife with turmoil and discord, the resonating call for peace and unity remains more pertinent than ever. Italian singer-songwriter Mirko Colombari is lending his impassioned voice to this noble cause through his latest single, “Citizens Of The War.” This powerful rock anthem boldly speaks out against the futility and inefficacy of armed conflicts, staunchly opposing the very concept of war. With heartfelt lyrics, a powerful message, and resonating rock melodies, Mirko Colombari crafts a compelling and thought-provoking piece of music that stands up against global conflicts.
Born on December 17, 1977, in the Province of Reggio Emilia, Italy, specifically in Castelnovo né Monti, Mirko Colombari embarked on his musical journey at a tender age, beginning with the acoustic guitar played just for fun. At the age of six, he took a formal plunge into the world of music by enrolling in a conservatory, where classical music became his initial immersion. However, it didn’t take long for his musical horizons to broaden significantly.
Around the age of 15, Mirko was drawn to the electric guitar, and as he turned 17, he started crafting his own lyrics. By the time he reached 20, he had ventured into singing and evolved into a singer-songwriter. Throughout his musical journey, he studied and collaborated with various instructors and producers, immersing himself in diverse musical genres, including classical, rock, blues, funk, folk, and Latin. These varied influences would come to shape his unique singer-songwriter style.
Mirko’s musical odyssey also included stints with various bands. His journey began with a garage band, formed with friends from a local bar when he was a mere 16. Later, at the age of 20, he joined forces with friends from his hometown to form a rock group known as NAOS, which ventured into performing covers with fresh and innovative arrangements. Subsequently, he became part of ELEMENTO NATURALE, a group focused on live performances of original songs and studio sessions. Ultimately, Mirko Colombari decided to set forth on a solo career.
In 2004, he unveiled his debut album, a self-titled work, “MIRKO COLOMBARI,” featuring songs he had composed and performed in the preceding years. The intentional rawness of the album, akin to a live performance, was coupled with experimental studio elements. This introduction of his name started circulating in Castelnovo né Monti, his small but significant birthplace.
The year 2008 marked the release of “C219,” an Italian indie rock album in collaboration with musicians from the Reggiano mountains. The album was infused with the flavors of the 1970s and 1980s, placing a particular emphasis on guitars and aiming to create rock sounds that could be effectively replicated in live performances. “C219” garnered recognition from local media and was showcased at live events throughout the province.
In 2013, Mirko Colombari released “BOK,” an English folk rock album produced in collaboration with a team of national professionals. The album was met with critical acclaim, enjoying airtime on regional radio stations. Multiple tracks from the album made it to the final stages of the Pierangelo Bertoli and Augusto Daolio awards. Notably, “BOK” also became the official anthem of the Ducati Desmoboys motorcycle club.
The year 2015 brought an exciting collaboration when Mirko partnered with Magilla Spettacoli Editore. In the following year, he was selected by the Sonda project, commencing a productive collaboration with producer Marco Bertoni. This phase was primarily focused on lyrics and sonic experimentation.
In 2017, Mirko celebrated his official radio debut with the autobiographical track “Amsterdam.” The song encapsulated an orchestral pop-rock atmosphere, taking listeners on a sonic journey through the iconic city. The sound was mellower, the message more immediate, and the arrangement was a product of collaboration with Paolo Faldi, Gino La Grassa, and Sergio Pescara on drums. To his credit, the song claimed the top spot in the Airplay beginners chart.
The year 2018 witnessed the release of “SS 63,” a tribute to the Tosco Emiliano Apennine Park, which navigated the realms of pop and blues. Notably, the same year brought forth “Paese del sole,” a tribute to the beauty of Italy, where reggae and rock intertwined harmoniously. This release marked the inception of a partnership with Eko guitars, facilitated by the collaboration with the acclaimed Massimo Varini.
In 2019, Mirko signed with Sorridi Music, and the unveiling of his album “IN VIAGGIO” followed, consolidating four preceding singles and introducing four new tracks. “Si va,” one of the singles, embarked on its journey into the echelons of national indie radio circuits, characterized by its folk-rock simplicity.
The summer of 2020 witnessed Mirko signing with Artisti Online label. He collaborated on two more tracks with Cuban singer-songwriter Antonio Gil, resulting in the release of “Tequila sale e limone,” “Nottestate,” “La Baccante,” and “Un giorno storto.” These singer-songwriter tracks were entirely authored, produced, and arranged by Mirko, with an unwavering emphasis on the guitars, weaving together rock, pop, folk, and electronic elements.
On June 11, 2021, Mirko unveiled his fifth album, “PEZZI DI VITA.” This fully self-produced work comprised ten tracks that reflected the artist’s life during that period. Impressively, the album garnered over one million listens within its first year on digital stores. Mirko Colombari’s lyrical prowess in the album led to a nomination for the Tour Music Fest award, marking the resurgence of his live performances.
In 2022, a fresh horizon beckoned for the artist. Mirko composed a singer-songwriter track in English, which advanced to the final stages of the Sanremo Rock competition and the Premio Bussola Oggi award. Fast-forwarding to 2023, Mirko once again reached the final stages of the Sanremo Rock competition, this time with “Ibiza Man.” This latest achievement coincided with the artist’s reflection on recent global events, specifically focusing on the numerous military conflicts that have persisted for far too long worldwide, including those in Ukraine and Israel. It’s crucial to note that, in 2022 alone, a staggering 230,000 victims were recorded across the globe, with 59 ongoing wars currently plaguing our world.
Mirko Colombari is no stranger to utilizing his art, particularly through his music, to address pressing global issues. With “Citizens Of The War,” he takes a formidable stance against these conflicts, emphasizing their catastrophic futility.
