As The Prickly Pair works diligently to mix their original songs for an upcoming EP, they couldn’t resist the allure of releasing something special for Halloween. Therefore, they decided to unveil “Haunted Hotel” on the thematically fitting date of Friday the 13th, also marking Mason’s birthday. For this EP, they thoughtfully selected an original song, “Haunted Hotel,” perfectly in sync with the eerie essence of the season. Alongside this original, the EP presents a chilling instrumental and two cover songs, each contributing to the creation of the ideal Halloween atmosphere.
“Haunted Hotel” was born as a love song from Irene to Mason, inspired by an eerie experience at the supposedly haunted Monte Vista hotel in Flagstaff, Arizona. The room they stayed in was the site of a double murder involving two sex workers, whose ghosts were rumored to choke male guests in their sleep. This unsettling backdrop became the muse for the haunting song.
“Banks of the Ohio” is a reimagined traditional murder ballad, offering a fresh perspective from a female point of view.
“Six Foot Under” takes you on a journey into the world of obscure 1960s country music, exploring themes of love, death, and mortality in a truly unique way.
The creation of “Haunted Hotel” led to thrilling experiments with effects pedals and long-distance communication with collaborators in Los Angeles. These behind-the-scenes stories add an extra layer of intrigue to the EP’s journey.
