LAZA! Breaks Boundaries with Debut EP: ‘I Don’t Care!’

In a world where music often feels formulaic and pre-packaged, emerging band LAZA! is a breath of fresh air, bringing a dynamic blend of sass, attitude, and relatability to the scene. Their debut EP, aptly titled ‘I Don’t Care!’, is a testament to their unapologetic approach to self-expression and creativity.

Formed amidst the challenges of lockdown, LAZA! is a collaboration of four talented individuals, each bringing their unique flair to the table. Luiza Lale, the saxophonist and lyricist, alongside her husband David Lale, the cellist and producer, form the core of the band. Ana Gracey, with her captivating vocals, adds depth and emotion to their sound, while Chris Sanchez, the guitarist and producer, injects energy and edge into their tracks.

The band’s journey began in the midst of global uncertainty when Luiza and David started creating music together during lockdown. Fate brought Ana into the mix, and despite geographical barriers, with Chris located in the USA, the band found that distance was no obstacle to their collaboration.

Drawing inspiration from a diverse range of artists including Zayde Wolfe, Sam Tinnesz, Alaina Cross, and Little Mix, LAZA! crafts a sound that is uniquely their own. Their music blends elements of pop, rock, and cinematic influences, resulting in a sound that is both fresh and familiar.

The EP’s production was a labor of love, with vocals and strings recorded in Temple Studios, a space rich in musical history. The studio, once owned by Ana’s late parents, Barbara Thompson and Jon Hiseman, provided a fitting backdrop for the creation of their music, steeped in tradition yet pushing the boundaries of contemporary sound.

‘I Don’t Care!’ is more than just a collection of songs; it’s a manifesto for self-empowerment and authenticity. The tracks are an anthem for those who refuse to conform to societal expectations, embracing their individuality with pride. From the defiant declaration of the title track, “I Don’t Care!”, to the empowering anthem “Girls”, each song is a celebration of personal freedom and resilience.

But the EP also delves into deeper, more introspective themes. “Rise Up” explores the universal need for support and connection, reminding listeners that it’s okay to lean on others in times of need. Meanwhile, “Real Life Is So….” offers a poignant reflection on the pressures of adulthood, navigating the complexities of responsibility and desire.

With ‘I Don’t Care!’, LAZA! has not only announced their arrival onto the music scene but has also set the stage for a promising future. Their bold sound and unapologetic attitude mark them as a band to watch, offering a refreshing alternative to the mainstream. As they continue to evolve and grow, one thing is certain – LAZA! is here to stay, and they’re not afraid to make some noise along the way.
