Their journey began in the halls of university, where Richard met Freddie and James, forging a musical connection that would shape their future collaborations. Drawing from a diverse array of influences, Richard’s compositions are imbued with the melodic sensibilities of The Beatles, the emotive guitar work of John Frusciante, and the storytelling prowess of Tracy Chapman.
Released two years ago, ‘A Lesson’ has yet to grace the stage in live performances, but Richard harbors hopes of bringing it to audiences in future gigs and events. As part of a broader musical project, the track represents a snapshot of Richard’s creative journey, alongside his recent release, “The Circle Closes,” a collection of piano and string compositions.
Recorded in a London studio, ‘A Lesson’ was brought to life under the skilled hands of Richard’s personal sound engineer based in Italy. Reflecting on the ethos behind the single, Richard shares that it was conceived during the quarantine years of the COVID-19 pandemic, a period of isolation that served as a collective “Lesson” for humanity.
At its core, ‘A Lesson’ is a reflection of Richard’s wish for a brighter future, a testament to the resilience of the human spirit in the face of adversity. With its sweet melodies and heartfelt message, the song serves as a reminder that even in our darkest moments, there is always the potential for growth and transformation.
As Richard reflects on his musical journey, he shares, “The main characteristic of my music is the range of musical styles I cover. ‘A Lesson’ is a mix of pop-rock with a really nice bass solo in the middle section. But I delve into neoclassical compositions as well, as seen in my EP ‘The Circle Closes,’ and I produce electronic music. Surely my music is not limited to a few musical styles.”
