Boulder-based singer-songwriter Robert Jordan has released his latest single, “Song for Bob,” a vibrant and energetic tribute to the legendary Bob Dylan. This track is part of Jordan’s new album, “Vincent and Theo,” and showcases his distinctive style, blending elements of 1970s rock with modern musicianship.
“Song for Bob” is a heartfelt homage to Bob Dylan, capturing the spirit and energy of Dylan’s full-band style from the 1970s. The song is characterized by its upbeat tempo, fast-paced rhythm, and danceable rock vibe, making it an instant favorite for fans of classic rock and folk rock alike. The chorus and bridge are especially engaging, encouraging listeners to sing along and revel in the joyous tribute.
The track features both male and female vocals, adding depth and richness to the performance. The interplay between the voices creates a dynamic listening experience that enhances the song’s lively character. The electric guitar work stands out, showcasing exceptional musicianship that pays homage to the intricate and expressive style of Dylan’s music.
“Vincent and Theo,” the album on which “Song for Bob” appears, was recorded at Far and Away Studios in Boulder by Geoff Gray, a veteran of the recording industry with a career spanning fifty years. Gray’s expertise has been sought after by many well-known artists, including the Colorado band Firefall, who recently recorded an album with him.
The album was produced by David Snider, a seasoned studio musician and jazz band member with an illustrious career. Snider’s musical journey began in his teenage years when he took guitar lessons from jazz great Larry Coryell and played guitar on the award-winning album “Between the Lines” by Janis Ian. Currently, Snider works with Carlos Santana as a keyboard player, bringing a wealth of experience and a touch of jazz influence to Jordan’s project.
The drumming on “Vincent and Theo” is provided by Christian Teele, the drummer for the E-town house band and a sought-after session drummer. Teele’s rhythmic precision and versatility add a solid foundation to the album’s diverse tracks.
Backing vocals on the album come from Rebecca Abraxas, a longtime Boulder folk singer, coffee shop performer, and sound healer. Her contributions enrich the vocal harmonies and add an authentic folk touch to the music.
While “Song for Bob” is one of the album’s upbeat rockers, the album as a whole spans a variety of musical styles. Tracks like “Over for Good” maintain the rock energy, while songs such as “In Heaven” evoke the mysterious and haunting tones of The Doors. “Invisible Friends” offers a fun and catchy chorus, and “Sky” is a beautiful dobro instrumental. Love songs like tracks #3 and #6 provide emotional depth, and “Purgatory” serves as a bold critique of religious dogma.
Robert Jordan’s journey into songwriting began later in life, with his first album, “Time Will Tell,” released just five years ago. Despite starting his musical career later than most, Jordan has made a significant impact with his thoughtful lyrics and compelling compositions. His ability to blend various genres and his commitment to storytelling are evident in his work.
The title track of “Vincent and Theo” recounts a personal experience at Vincent Van Gogh’s grave, showcasing Jordan’s knack for weaving true stories into his music. This personal touch, combined with his diverse musical influences, makes “Vincent and Theo” a standout album in the contemporary folk rock scene. Click HERE to listen to ‘Song for Bob’
