The Savage Hearts: Unleashing ‘Gang War/Speed Kills’

Emerging from the shadows of Cavan, Ireland, The Savage Hearts have made a bold entry into the music scene with their debut single ‘Gang War/Speed Kills’. This explosive release showcases the band’s raw energy and eclectic influences, marking a significant milestone for the group led by former Strypes drummer Evan Walsh. The single, released under Blowtorch Records, captures the essence of unhinged rock ‘n’ roll, infused with a modern twist.

The band features Darragh Muldoon on lead guitar and lead vocals, Evan Walsh on bass guitar, keyboards, and vocals, Terry Brady on harmonica, keyboards, and vocals, Eugenio Collinassi on saxophone and trombone, Emil Kapusta on drums and percussion, and Becky Walsh on backing and harmony vocals. United by their love for garage rock, psychedelia, and blues/R&B, The Savage Hearts draw inspiration from a wide array of artists, including Ty Segall, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, Bo Diddley, and The Damned.

Central to the band’s mystique is their reverence for the enigmatic rock ‘n’ roll figure Eddie Cruizer. Known for his roles in obscure drive-in movies like “The Creature That Ate Your Sister” and “Hot Rod Rocky & The Asbury Playboys vs Dracula,” Cruizer’s influence pervades their music. The Savage Hearts channel his spirit to craft a sound that is wild, unpolished, and brimming with raw energy.

‘Gang War’: This track kicks off with a thuggish, boogie-infused sound, co-authored by Evan Walsh and Ste Kelly of Dublin’s indie powerhouse Raglans. The song’s aggressive tone and relentless energy set the stage for a visceral listening experience. With lyrics that paint a gritty picture of street battles and societal decay, ‘Gang War’ is both a commentary and a celebration of rebellion.

‘Speed Kills’: Transitioning into a mile-a-minute deathtrap ditty, this track encapsulates the frantic energy of a high-speed chase. Co-authored by Evan Walsh and Niall Walsh, ‘Speed Kills’ is a frenetic blend of garage rock and psych-tripping elements, highlighting the band’s ability to merge diverse influences into a cohesive sound. The song’s focus on rebellion and nonconformity further solidifies The Savage Hearts’ commitment to their raw, unfiltered musical ethos.

The single was recorded at Darklands Audio in Dublin and JAM Studios in Kells, Ireland, with engineering by Dan Doherty and Martin Quinn. Evan Walsh took on the role of producer, ensuring that the band’s vision was faithfully captured. The tracks were mixed and mastered by Martin Quinn, resulting in a polished yet edgy final product.

Since their inception, The Savage Hearts have built a reputation as a formidable live act. Their festival appearances include Electric Picnic (2022 & 2023), Sea Sessions, and Kaleidoscope. They have also supported legendary acts such as The Boomtown Rats and The Undertones. Their live performances are characterized by high energy, unpredictable antics, and a deep connection with their audience.

Following the success of ‘Gang War/Speed Kills’, which shot to Number 1 on the Irish Download Chart in its first week, The Savage Hearts are set to make their UK debut with shows at iconic venues like the Dublin Castle and Gaz’s Rockin’ Blues in July. Their upcoming album, ‘Mixed Messages’, promises to continue their exploration of diverse musical landscapes, blending garage rock, psychedelia, and beyond.

The Savage Hearts’ debut single ‘Gang War/Speed Kills’ is a testament to their raw talent and fearless approach to music. By channeling the spirit of rock ‘n’ roll legends and infusing their sound with modern elements, the band has created a unique musical identity that resonates with audiences. As they continue to carve out their place in the music world, The Savage Hearts are a band to watch, bringing a fresh yet nostalgic energy to the rock scene.
