For Barry KuKes, country music was not always a natural fit. His appreciation for the genre developed after he began playing with The Copper Creek Band, opening the door to a new creative direction for a songwriter whose musical experience spans more than five decades. On Drive This Cadillac, KuKes embraces that journey, bringing his established songwriting instincts into the world of country music.

The album features 14 songs, including 10 written by KuKes alone, three co-written with Steve Zoeller, and one written with Robert Kramer. This blend of solo writing and collaboration gives the project a broad creative foundation, reflecting an artist who continues to explore new territory rather than remain within the genres that first defined his career.
KuKes approaches the project from the perspective of an experienced songwriter and drummer. Although he regularly performs with his cover bands, The Taylor Road Band and The Copper Creek Band, his greatest passion remains creating original music. That distinction matters here: Drive This Cadillac represents a songwriter stepping further into a genre he once had little interest in, guided by curiosity and a willingness to experiment.
The album’s creation is also notable for its use of AI-assisted production. Working from his home in Port Orange, Florida, KuKes developed melodies by humming ideas into AI software, then carefully edited the resulting audio stems using Audacity. This hands-on process allowed him to shape the material and work towards the country sound he wanted. Rather than relying solely on conventional studio methods, he incorporated new technology into his songwriting workflow, demonstrating how established musicians can explore unfamiliar creative tools.
That willingness to adapt is consistent with KuKes’s wider musical history. His catalogue includes eight albums spanning big band, classic rock, dance, Christmas music, smooth jazz and country, reflecting a career built around variety rather than a single musical identity. His work also extends beyond recording and performance: KuKes has written seven books, including The Christmas House, which has reportedly been downloaded more than 25,000 times.
With Drive This Cadillac, KuKes adds another chapter to an already varied creative life. The project brings together decades of songwriting experience, a developing connection to country music and an unconventional production process shaped by experimentation. It is a reminder that musical discovery does not have to end with experience. Sometimes, a new direction begins simply by trying something that once seemed unlikely.
