Sheffield’s own rock band, THE FAREWELL STATE, are set to release their highly anticipated debut album ‘Dial Everything’ on May 24th, following the success of their debut single, ‘Year Zero.’ The album’s title, a nod to its versatile and omnipresent nature, reflects the band’s ability to dial the music up to eleven or down to zero, embodying the ebb and flow of sound and emotion.
The creation of ‘Dial Everything’ was no small feat. The band faced numerous challenges, including line-up changes, studio floods, a global pandemic, and the mental and physical strains of lockdowns. Despite these adversities, the album stands as a testament to their resilience and dedication to their craft. Overcoming such hardships has only added depth and authenticity to the music, making the album a powerful narrative of triumph and perseverance.
Recorded over the span of a year, the album was crafted with the expertise of Sheffield producer Tom Henthorn (New Ghost/Jube) at Make Noise Studios. The collaboration has resulted in a rich and dynamic sound that captures the essence of the band’s journey. The album’s eight tracks are a testament to the band’s lived experiences and emotional highs and lows, encapsulating electric protest songs, epic ballads, and guitar riff meltdowns.
The album artwork itself is a visual representation of the music’s emotional grip, with tentacles of speech and song that are ready to grab listeners, ready or not. This imagery perfectly complements the raw and intense soundscapes that THE FAREWELL STATE has crafted.
In celebration of the album’s release, THE FAREWELL STATE will be performing at Zephyr’s in Stag Works on John Street in Sheffield on May 17th. The event, which features rising local stars Ecstasy and Osprey as support acts, promises to be a memorable night with the band playing the album in full for the first time live. Fans will also have the exclusive opportunity to purchase the LP a week before its official release.
Adding to the excitement, the track ‘Ready Yourself’—described as a driving blend of Killing Joke meets Afghan Whigs at the disco—will be accompanied by a music video from band collaborator JunkBond. The video will be released on the same day as the album, offering a visual feast to complement the auditory experience.
The journey to ‘Dial Everything’ has been one of endurance and artistic growth for THE FAREWELL STATE. As the band themselves have reflected, “These particular tunes have grabbed us for 14 years so far and we hope they will do the same for you.” With its powerful storytelling and compelling sound, ‘Dial Everything’ promises to resonate deeply with listeners, marking a significant milestone for the band and the Sheffield music scene.
The release of ‘Dial Everything’ is not just the culmination of years of hard work and overcoming adversity, but also a new beginning for THE FAREWELL STATE, as they share their passion and resilience through their music with the world.
