Mick J. Clark – “It’s Getting Near Christmas”

Christmas is a season of anticipation, excitement and, occasionally, a little chaos. Between the preparations, the pressure of getting everything ready and the romance that often accompanies the festive period, there is plenty of emotion packed into the weeks leading up to December 25. Mick J. Clark captures these different sides of the season in “It’s Getting Near Christmas,” a festive single that embraces the anticipation as much as the celebrations themselves.

Rather than focusing exclusively on the familiar warmth and happiness associated with Christmas, Clark wants the song to reflect the full experience. The excitement of the approaching day sits alongside the stress of preparations, while a touch of romance adds another dimension to the festive atmosphere. It is a combination that makes the song’s subject matter familiar to anyone who has experienced the build-up to Christmas.

Clark approaches the track with the perspective of an experienced songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. As a singer, songwriter and guitarist, he also plays drums and keyboards, bringing a broad musical background to his recordings. He acknowledges the contribution of the backing singers and producers he has worked with, recognising the importance of collaboration in bringing his songs to life.

His wider catalogue demonstrates a willingness to explore different musical styles. Across pop, rock, ballads, R&B, dance, Latin and country, Clark has developed a collection of original material that reflects his varied songwriting interests. His box set, Song Catalogue, brings together 60 songs alongside three Christmas tracks, offering listeners an overview of his work.

His career has also achieved considerable independent and industry recognition. Clark has accumulated more than one million Spotify streams and appeared six times in the iTunes Singles Chart, as well as once in the Album Chart with Brand New Love Songs. His single “We Know It’s True” reached number three in the UK and number two in the US iTunes Top 100 Rock Songs chart. His album Causes also reached the 64th Grammy Awards nomination stage.

Christmas music has become another important part of his catalogue. His EP, Mick’s Christmas Mix, has generated more than 300,000 streams across its three Christmas songs, while his summer release “Anuther Sunny Hulliday” has attracted over 200,000 streams. His birthday song, “Blow Those Candles Out,” adds another example of his interest in writing music around shared occasions and experiences.

Beyond entertainment, Clark has also used songwriting to address social issues. “Me My Body And I” was created to encourage children facing bullying and self-harm, while “You Don’t Look Cool,” performed by teenagers from the BRIT School, addresses smoking and drug use. Both songs were introduced into schools across Croydon through the Croydon Education Department.

With “It’s Getting Near Christmas,” Clark returns to the seasonal spirit that has already connected with listeners through his Christmas catalogue. By bringing together excitement, stress and romance, he aims to capture the many feelings that make the festive build-up memorable.
