Richard Green – “Wasted Tears”

There is a particular kind of wisdom that only arrives with time. What once felt devastating can eventually become something we understand differently, and Richard Green’s “Wasted Tears” explores that transition with a surprisingly thoughtful perspective.

Released on 7 January 2026, “Wasted Tears” is an indie/dance track built around a dark atmosphere, strong melodic hooks and an arrangement that refuses to let the mood become completely heavy. That contrast is one of the song’s most interesting qualities: there is darkness in its emotional world, but also enough melody and movement to keep it engaging and forward-looking.

The idea behind the track comes from a past experience, but Green deliberately expands it into something more universal. “Wasted Tears” is about giving too much emotional energy to something that, with hindsight, was not worth it. Rather than treating that experience as something embarrassing or criticising the person we were at the time, Green sees it as part of growing up.

That distinction gives the song more depth than its title might initially suggest. Being young means experiencing things intensely and sometimes struggling to understand their true value. Adulthood brings perspective—the ability to look back and recognise that not every heartbreak, disappointment or loss deserves to carry the same weight forever.

Musically, Green captures that idea through an unusual combination of atmosphere and accessibility. He describes the track as an indie/dance piece, with a dark musical character balanced by a strong lead melody. The production draws from a mixture of electronic influences rather than attempting to imitate one particular artist, with traces of the Chemical Brothers, Boys Noize and the experimental electronic work of John Frusciante informing the wider sonic palette.

The result feels distinctly personal. Green created and composed the track himself in his home studio in Piacenza, before having it mixed and mastered at Studio Elfo. That DIY foundation is important to understanding his work: he isn’t simply operating within one established electronic style. His catalogue moves across different musical territories, and “Wasted Tears” demonstrates his willingness to experiment with sound while keeping the emotional idea at the centre.

It is also a fitting track for Electronic Therapy, the six-track EP in which Green brings together techno, electro, indie and EDM. “Wasted Tears” represents the more introspective side of that project, proving that electronic music can carry a reflective narrative without losing its melodic pull.

Ultimately, the song’s strongest message is not to regret the tears. Sometimes we need to go through those experiences before we can understand them properly. The tears may have been “wasted,” but the growth that comes afterwards doesn’t have to be.
